Attention : Mr Hau LUNG-BIN, Mayor of Taipei
Dear Mayor Lung-Bin,
I am taking the liberty to approach you again regarding the invitation to visit the city of Lyon that you received on April 2011, from the Mayor Gérard Collomb.
My visit of Taipei City on February 2011 was a beneficial experience, since I discovered a very dynamical city, and found out that many partnerships already exist between Lyon and Taipei.
For instance, our cities are already strongly bound together on a shared interest for culture, as proved by the concert that the National Orchestra of Lyon performed in Taipei. Likewise, the heads of the Lyon Biennale for Contemporary Art attended the Taipei Biennal, looking for inspiration and contacts.
Moreover, the links forged between academic institutions are significant: strong partnerships between the University of Taipei and the University of Lyon 1 make Lyon the main destination in France for Taiwanese students abroad.
This vast collaboration is already valued by the Mayor of Lyon, Mr Gérard Collomb, yet we are looking forward to extending our relations. We are ready to consider any new partnership with Taipei. Thus, Mr Collomb would be pleased and honored to bring this subject up with you, therefore, invite you in Lyon.
Keeping in mind the wonderful welcome you and the Minister of Transportation and Communications Mao Chi-kuo (Tourism Bureau) gave me, Mr Gérard Collomb and I thought about inviting you to Lyon’s “Fête des Lumières” (Festival of Lights), from the 8th to the 11th December 2011. It is the main event of the city: all the great artworks from various “light artists” transfigure the whole city during these four days, the streets and all the major buildings being illuminated.
It would really be an honor to welcome you in December, as it would be to give you the opportunity to discover Lyon at the best time of the year; also to work on reinforcing the closeness between our cities, and have an exchange with some of the living forces of the city.
If you don’t have time to travel to France, we would also be glad to come and see you in Taipei with economic, cultural and political leaders of our city.
I stay at your disposal for any further information you should require.
Yours faithfully,
Romain BLACHIER
Deputy Mayor
